4 Generations

crafting olives and pickles with passion

For over 100 years, in Bernal we have been making olives and pickles with the same commitment as when it all began: doing things the right way, respecting the origin of our products, and taking care of every detail.

Today, it is the 4th generation of the family that continues to lead, keeping that legacy alive. We preserve our way of working that combines experience, tradition, and passion for the product to bring the authentic flavor of our land to your table.

Our History

1900

The origins in Murcia

José “Pepe el Migas” Bernal, is born into a humble family from the Murcian countryside. Orphaned since childhood, he learns from his grandparents to work the land of his grandparents where they cultivate capers, caper buds, and stems. At the age of 15, he inherits a mule and a cart, and begins to sell in the towns of Orihuela (Alicante).

1918

Family and business in progress

At 18 years old, Pepe marries Isabel Cuartero. Together they travel through the towns of Murcia and Callosa de Segura selling products, with their roots firmly planted in their land and their eyes set on the future.

1936

Hard times

The Civil War interrupts their path. Pepe is assigned as a caretaker in Granada. Isabel takes care of their children, keeping the family alive while waiting for better times..

1940

Return to the roots

With the war over, the family moves to Callosa de Segura. Pepe returns to his roots as a street vendor. The family is temporarily divided between Murcia and Alicante.

First warehouses

The business is growing. The first warehouses are acquired in Callosa. In the 50s, fixed stalls are established in markets such as the one in Almoradí.

1960

The Third Generation

Antonio Bernal, son of Pepe, takes over and expands the business nationally, traveling to Seville to buy olives. In 1962, he marries Visitación Verdú.

1993

A new family path

Antonio and his sister Carmen decide to go their separate ways. Antonio continues with the Aceitunas Bernal brand, now alongside his seven children, the fourth Bernal generation.

2004

New facilities

The growth of the business leads to moving to larger facilities, outside the urban center.

2007

Opening to the world

In 2007, the first international orders arrive. Since 2010, they have participated in international fairs such as ANUGA, SIAL, and Alimentaria, and in 2012 they begin agreements with major distributors.
